3 Amazing Swaddles To Get Your Newborn to Sleep
We live in a time with SO many options.
We are lucky.
But also, so unlucky.
Sometimes the options are overwhelming.
Especially when it comes to baby gear.
And not just any baby gear, baby sleep essentials. One baby sleep essential that should be high on your list is a swaddle.
I will say, you are lucky to find this blog on baby swaddles because…
I tested out countless swaddles when I had my first baby.
Take it from someone who already did the trial-and-error process for you.
Don’t Give Up on Swaddling
My son was the ultimate swaddle escape artist.
Convinced I would never sleep again, I began to give in to the negative idea that I wouldn’t be able to find a good sleep solution for him.
After some research and a few classes on newborn sleep, I soon discovered he needed the swaddle to fall asleep and stay asleep.
A little persistence and buying good quality swaddles eventually led to my son sleeping through the night at 8 weeks old.
Amazing!
But be warned, it was a long journey.
Many parents give up on swaddles early on. Babies act like they don't like it, or they continue to break out of them.
I’m here to say, don’t give up!
Desperate for sleep, I bought SO MANY swaddles, and I tested them all out to see which would work. So, since I’ve done all the hard work for you, let’s talk about my favorite swaddles after my tedious trial-and-error process.
Embé Swaddle - Two-Way Swaddle
If you’re someone who doesn’t like the idea of a weighted swaddle, this could be an excellent option for you.
I tried the Embé swaddle when my son was between 0 to 4 weeks old and waking up about every hour to feed and have a diaper change.
After trying many swaddles on my son, I decided this swaddle calmed him the most during his early few weeks of life.
This swaddle has two options: legs in or legs out.
The legs out option might be better for hotter climates or summer weather, as well as easy diaper changes.
The legs in option still regulates their temperature, keeping them snuggled up.
My Favorite Feature of the Embé Swaddle
Zipper AND velcro combo.
The first layer of this swaddle has a zipper with adjustable lengths that grow with your baby. The second layer contains a strong velcro panel that goes all the way around your baby, keeping them comforted, swaddled, and in place.
My escape-artist baby calmed completely and began to sleep for longer periods of time after the first night.
Also, another bonus, my newborn baby girl loves this swaddle even more than my son.
She’s a calm burrito in this swaddle and does not break out of it. We’re one week in, and already sleeping 3 hour stretches!
It’s an excellent non-weighted option and completely safe for your newborn baby.
Nested Bean Swaddle Review - Lightly Weighted Swaddles
When my son turned 4 weeks old, I decided to change up his swaddle. He was sleeping for 3-hour stretches, but I desired a swaddle that extended his sleeping time.
If you're a tired mom (or dad) on feeding and diaper duty, you've definitely been there.
Dangerously close to a complete meltdown, wondering if I'd ever sleep again, I came across a Nested Bean ad on Instagram.
It was 1 am, desperate for my sleep and ready to spend the cash, I ordered a swaddle from Nested Bean to try on my son.
Since he didn’t like to have his arms down, I bought two options, the Zen One and Zen Swaddle.
I’ve listed out the benefits of both.
Zen One Swaddle
Arms-up option
Mesh sleeves that keep baby from scratching
Two-way zipper
An adjustable inner band that keeps baby in position
Removable sleeves when baby starts to roll over
Lightly weighted on the chest
Super soft, breathable fabric
Allows for 7 to 18.5-pound babies
Zen Swaddle Classic
Arms down
Super soft, breathable fabric
Strong velcro
So many cute designs
Lightly weighted on chest and sides
allows for 7 to 18-pound babies
I absolutely loved both of these swaddle options.
In my son's case, he slept better in the Zen One Swaddle because he could have his arms up.
Many babies really do prefer to have their arms up, and I love that Nested Bean has this option.
The Best Part of Your Newborn’s Sleep Routine
No matter which swaddle you choose, your baby will sleep best with a swaddle. I promise!
Babies often wake themselves up while sleeping due to the startle reflex. Finding the best swaddle for your baby is essential to establish good sleep habits and bedtime routines.
Swaddles also allow your baby to stay calm while sleeping, also allowing you to stay calm and sleep. The confined space recreates the comforting feeling of the womb, creating a familiar environment.
If you can find the right swaddle for your baby, they will sleep better, and YOU will sleep better.
I promise!
Go ahead and check out these amazing swaddles, you won’t regret it!
